Our Fund

Hoodoo Ventures is a New Mexico-based micro-fund that invests in frontier deep tech, largely seeded by de-classified IP and dual-use technology spinning out of the National Labs and government-funded university programs. New Mexico has a deep tech growth cluster of innovative technologies ranging from quantum to materials science to space,  largely being driven by the triangulation of Los Alamos National Labs (LANL), Air Force Research Laboratories and Sandia National Labs. These institutions, with combined annual budgets exceeding $7.4 billion, are at the forefront of deep technology R&D, attracting top-tier researchers from around the world. At the nexus, are a variety of efforts including the Space Valley Coalition, Q Station, White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico’s Quantum Moonshot Initiative, and a host of venture studios and innovation hubs to accelerate technology developments. Most recently, New Mexico received designation as core to Elevate Quantum, which is the U.S Economic Development Administration (EDA) $40.5M award to designate NM, CO, and WY as the Quantum Tech Hubs of the United States, solidifying the Mountain West’s role as the epicenter of quantum. As one of the few locally based venture funds in this deep tech corridor, Hoodoo Ventures capitalizes on our well of expertise and access to facilitate rapid growth of burgeoning technologies and entrepreneurs in the region.

Our Companies

Most of our investment candidates have already received grants to further their deep research and IP, achieved a minimal viable product, and their business plans are well-developed, ready for funding, and highly scalable for broad reaching commercialization opportunities. Most importantly, their technologies are highly disruptive, innovative, and desperately needed by the world to solve some of our most critical issues.

Our Investments

Fund I is ready to invest up to $10 million on the premise that there are unique investment opportunities for a specialist firm with deep engineering and entrepreneurial expertise at the earliest stages to help brilliant and innovative PhDs and founders commercialize their research and prototypes for a more resilient future.  We are able to support our portfolio innovators with entrepreneurial talent, infrastructure, executive coaching, and most importantly, synergistic smart capital.

In all arenas, our goal is to identify, source and support entrepreneurs leading in their respective scientific fields through a Series A and beyond to accelerate disruptive technology solutions built around unique, protected, and hard-to-reproduce technological advances.  We help our founders hit their milestones, validate solutions, and build a strong customer base.

WHERE WE INVEST

While we are agnostic to geographic location, we anticipate a majority of our investments will be US-based, with a higher concentration in the New Mexico innovation corridor between Los Alamos, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque.  We are also committed to having at least 10% of our portfolio be founded by BIPOC, Latinx, or female-identifying founders. Lastly, as our fund grows it is our honor to commit 10% of general partner profits realized back into the New Mexico community through NM LEEP grants, technical education for underserved local youth, and educational programs for a more sustainable start-up ecosystem in the enchanted state of New Mexico.
