PORTFOLIO

Hoodoo Ventures is actively investing Fund I. We are focused primarily in pre-seed and seed rounds ranging from $50,000 up to $1 million with the intention of investing in 10-15 start-ups over the next 3-5 years.  Our offering to these entrepreneurs is deep industry expertise, business acumen, an active and relevant professional network, and plenty of hands-on support in helping their venture achieve milestones.  We can invest faster and earlier than most traditional funds, if the right founder and a scientific breakthrough technology is compelling.

ALBEDO

Albedo is a dual-use satellite imagery start-up initially founded in Y Combinator in 2021.  It’s mission is to make commercial orbital imaging available to the world at such exquisite detail to generate new possibilities for innovation and market growth.

Albedo is the first company to offer aerial-quality imagery from space.  For organizations, Albedo can monitor infrastructure, natural resources, logistics, or ecosystems, to see what matters and act with speed.  For governments, where ground truth matters but time is tight, Albedo enables them to monitor hotspots, eliminate uncertainty, and mobilize with speed.

This technology platform is essential in numerous fields ranging across energy & infrastructure, agriculture, urban development, insurance & investment, supply chain, sustainability & ESG, and defense & intelligence.  In 2024, they completed a Series A-1 of $35M on top of $48M previously.

Hydrosonics

Hydrosonics, Inc. is developing technology to change the way we make green hydrogen today. Hydrosonics aims to enable the widespread use of electrolysis technologies by drastically reducing their cost. They’ve created an innovative hydrogen electrolyzer technology, spun out of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) by Dr. Luis Chavez.

We believe their novel electrolyzer architecture will be disruptive to the hydrogen economy based on initial lab testing at the Labs and Dr. Chavez has been awarded a prestigious LEEP fellowship with LANL to continue his collaborative research with the Labs.

Most recently, Hydrosonics joined the RoadRunner venture studio to scale its mission to create the world’s cheapest clean hydrogen. Using proprietary external stimulation to control electrode chemistry, the company is developing electrolyzers that promise to cut in half the capital required to deploy alkaline electrolyzers while increasing efficiency and enabling direct integration with renewable energy.  Hydrosonics is now looking to scale up the demonstration of their novel approach to enable small-scale and affordable on-site hydrogen production, fully integrated with renewable electricity.

Freedom Biosciences

Freedom Biosciences is a leading biotechnology platform developing next-generation neuropsychiatric therapeutics. Co-founded and led by Dr. John Krystal, Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Yale University, and Dina Burkitbayeva, co-founder of PsyMed Ventures,

Freedom Biosciences has brought together a team of pioneering professionals in the fields of science and business to focus on fulfilling the great promise of a novel class of antidepressants.  Freedom Biosciences’ discovery platform allows it to identify the most efficacious combinations of chemicals to advance the safety and therapeutic profiles of existing therapeutics.

By leveraging the known pharmacology of ketamine, 5ht2a and other novel therapeutics, they are able to uncover potentially revolutionary breakthroughs in the burgeoning field of novel neuropsychiatric drugs. With programs with clinical data and multiple exploratory programs, Freedom Bio has a diverse portfolio of assets that are positioned to significantly improve on the existing therapeutics and change the way we treat mental health indications.
